Student Stephen Lund received the inaugural Robert B. Washburn Intellectual Property Law Scholarship during a ceremony on Nov. 29.
A native of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. and a member of the law school鈥檚 Class of 2011, Lund has demonstrated keen interest and ability in the field of intellectual property law.
The scholarship was created this year by the partners of Woodcock Washburn, LLP to honor Robert B. Washburn, one of the firm鈥檚 namesakes. Washburn was a pioneer in intellectual property law who shepherded countless innovations through the patent process over the course of his career.
"We鈥檙e pleased to honor Steve with recognition that is well deserved," said Steven J. Rocci, a partner with the firm, distinguished practice professor and member of the Law School Board. "He鈥檚 got some big shoes to fill, but I鈥檓 sure he鈥檚 going to do just great."
Lund had an opportunity to seek advice from both Rocci and Washburn during a luncheon at the law school that included Dean Roger Dennis and Professor Rex Glensy, who directs the school鈥檚 Intellectual Property Law Program.
"This is an amazing opportunity for me, especially since it鈥檚 the first time this scholarship is being offered," Lund said. "I came here to learn patent law, so it鈥檚 truly a great feeling to be recognized by the law school community."
